Like the saying goes "all good things come to an end", was exactly the case when I took to the race track for my final race on 19th of November.
The sport has been so good to me and taught me many things that I will take with me for the rest of my life. Racing has always been a big part of who I am but the time felt right to hang up the helmet and walk away while on top.
Going into the final race of the year was a little emotional and the main aim was just to enjoy this last opportunity. For the championship standings, two race wins were needed out of the 3 heats to win the 2016 championship.
The goal was obtained after the second heat and then the final would be just race to have fun. I decided to start at the back to have a fight and this final race was truly one that I will never forget. When the checkered flag came out, I had managed to work my way up to the front and crossed the line 0.1 seconds ahead of the second placed driver. That was the best possible way to end a career that I have enjoyed so much.
All in all we (and I say 'we' because this has been a family effort) managed to finish with 5 championships plus 1 tied for first, runner up in 5 championships and third in one other. I have been truly blessed to have been given this great opportunity to enjoy my passion and I have to thank Claudette and my whole family for all the sacrifices, support and help along the way.
Who knows what the future holds. Perhaps Connor will be interested in following in that passion, and if he does I will be his biggest fan!
