After such a hectic month of February sorting out robbery admin, finding a new car and trying to get our lives back on track, Claudette said that she felt there was something wrong with her and needed to go to the doctor thinking she might be pregnant. We didn't really believe it was possible considering all what had happened the previous month. The doctor did a test and said 'Congratulations, you are going to be parents'. It was bit of a surprise but we were both excited.

A week later we went for blood tests and to the gynecologist and the pregnancy was confirmed. It was very difficult to keep it a secret, but it was still at a risky stage so we had to. A few more weeks went by and we decided that we would break the news to our parents during our holiday in Mauritius (Claudette and my parents were joining us for a holiday in Mauritius).

My parents, Michele and Nigel came over the Easter weekend to come visit. We were caught unaware when Michele and Nigel asked us to be baby Kayla's guardian parents and that she would be baptized in August. Although we were honored to be asked, our reaction probably didn't seem to be happy but this was because straight away we were doing calculations in our heads as to whether or not Claudette would still be able to fly at that stage of her pregnancy.

That night Claudette and I discussed our reaction and decided we needed to break the news the next morning. We had already taken a photo of baby shoes with our dogs and our feet a week prior, and were planning to use this photo at the time of breaking the news. The next morning we sat them down and said we wanted to show them photos I had taken of baby Kayla the first time I saw her. I had slipped the 'reveal' photo into the same folder, and then it eventually popped up on the screen. Everyone was so surprised and excited. I remember Claudette then on the phone to her parents and many tears. Everyone then understood our reaction to the guardian parents question the previous evening.

A while later we went to a scan that would reveal the gender of the baby. We wanted to make a small celebration of it, so asked the specialist to not tell us the gender but write it on a paper and put it in an envelope. I then took the envelope to a shop where they would put balloons into a box (either blue for a boy or pink for a girl) according to the envelope. That night we had Lizzie and Claudette's mom visiting and we brought out the box. When we opened the box it was blue balloons that came out revealing we were having a boy.

This little guy has already done quite a bit of travelling. He has flown to Mauritius, Cape Town and East London even before being born.
